Abstract

This study investigates tourist preferences and satisfaction levels at various tourist destinations in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of visitor experiences. Through a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, primary data was collected from a diverse sample of tourists visiting prominent attractions such as the Dindigul Fort, Kodaikanal Lake, and the natural landscapes of the region. The findings reveal several factors that contribute significantly to tourists' preferences, including accessibility, cultural richness, natural beauty, and available amenities. Additionally, the study employs a satisfaction index to evaluate the experiences of tourists, demonstrating that overall satisfaction is strongly influenced by the quality of service, the hospitality of local residents, and the availability of recreational activities. Data analysis using descriptive and inferential statistics, including factor analysis, elucidates the relationships between various elements of tourist experience and resultant satisfaction levels. The results indicate a high level of satisfaction among visitors, but also highlight specific areas for improvement, such as infrastructure development and enhanced marketing strategies to attract more visitors. The implications of the study are pertinent for local stakeholders, including government bodies and tourism operators, as they seek to refine their strategies for promoting sustainable tourism development and enhancing the overall visitor experience. By identifying and understanding these preferences, the study contributes to the existing body of literature on tourism management within the Indian context, proposing actionable recommendations for policy formulation and destination marketing that could lead to improved tourist experiences and increased economic benefits for the region.
