Abstract

The high failure rates of start-ups strain entrepreneurial environments, particularly in emerging economies where there is market uncertainty and resource scarcity. While insights exist in the literature regarding parts of startup development (e.g., customer discovery, scaling), there is little guidance in integrating execution decisions. In this study, we propose the Market-to-Scale (M2S) Startup Framework which connects market discovery with sustainable scaling through a validation-rooted execution pathway.

M2S Framework: The M2S framework comprises ten stages, all of which are interdependent: marketing research, ideal customer profiling, pain validation, pricing validation, minimum viable product development, go-to-market strategy formulation; channel selection; sales execution customer feedback and scale. Each stage is a validation checkpoint to eliminate uncertainty and decide the best path forward, reducing the risk of premature scaling.

This framework combines many fragmented theories into a clear model demonstrating startup decision-making in the face of uncertainty. As far as practical implications are concerned, it offers a roadmap for founders, incubators and policymakers seeking to boost execution discipline and scaling readiness scale in emerging markets such as India where validation could make a difference to survival and sustained growth of ecosystem.
