All India Radio (AIR), established in 1936, has played a pivotal role in shaping the media landscape in India, particularly in the dissemination of news and information. This study examines the evolution of AIR’s news services, exploring how its programming has adapted to the changing political, social, and technological contexts of the country. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research analyses archival materials, policy documents, and contemporary broadcasts, providing insights into the operational frameworks that guide news content at AIR. The findings reveal that AIR has consistently aimed to uphold its mandate of providing impartial and comprehensive news coverage, even amidst various challenges such as government regulations, competition from private broadcasters, and the advent of digital media. The study highlights the strategic initiatives undertaken by AIR to maintain relevance, including the incorporation of regional languages and local issues, which have enhanced its reach and resonance with diverse audiences. Furthermore, the role of AIR as a public service broadcaster is critically evaluated, emphasizing its contribution to national integration and social cohesion through inclusive journalism. The research identifies key themes such as the balance between state influence and journalistic independence, the impact of technological advancements on news delivery, and the challenges of maintaining credibility in an era of misinformation. Through a comprehensive analysis, this study underscores AIR’s unique position within the Indian media ecosystem, illustrating its ongoing commitment to fostering an informed citizenry while navigating the complexities of modern broadcasting. The implications of these findings suggest that AIR must continue to innovate and adapt to the evolving media landscape, ensuring that it remains a vital source of news and information in India’s democratic framework.
