A Study of the Contribution of Swami Sivananda Saraswati Ji in Contemporary Stressful Lifestyle

Abstract
Stress has emerged as one of the most significant challenges of the twenty-first century, affecting individuals across all age groups and professions. Rapid technological advancements, urbanization, intense competition, changing family structures, and demanding lifestyles have contributed to increasing levels of psychological stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional instability. In this context, the teachings of Swami Sivananda Saraswati Ji offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to achieving mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. His philosophy emphasizes the integration of yoga, meditation, pranayama, selfless service (Karma Yoga), devotion (Bhakti Yoga), self-inquiry (Jnana Yoga), positive thinking, and disciplined living as practical means of overcoming stress and attaining inner peace. The present study aims to examine the relevance and contribution of Swami Sivananda's teachings in addressing the challenges of contemporary stressful lifestyles. The study adopts a qualitative and conceptual research design based on an extensive review of books, research articles, scholarly journals, and authentic publications of the Divine Life Society. The findings indicate that Swami Sivananda's holistic philosophy remains highly relevant in promoting resilience, emotional balance, mental health, ethical living, and spiritual growth. His integrated approach contributes significantly to preventive mental healthcare and value-based education. The study concludes that incorporating Sivananda's principles into educational institutions, workplaces, and community wellness programmes can help reduce stress and enhance overall quality of life.
