The Impact of Technological Research and Development on Economic Growth in Turkey: An Econometric Study for the Period (1990–2023)

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and quantify the long-run impact of technological research and development (R&D) on economic growth in Turkey over the period 1990–2023. To achieve this objective, the analysis employs a range of econometric techniques, including unit root tests to examine the stationarity of time series data, as well as cointegration testing using the bounds testing approach within the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) framework. The empirical findings indicate that high-technology exports, R&D expenditure, and patent application filings exert a positive and statistically significant effect on Turkey’s long-term economic growth. In contrast, scientific and technical journal publications, as well as the labor force, demonstrate a negative impact on economic growth over the same period.
